First session of the joint initiative between LiaLCity and INTA in Medellin (EN, FR, ESP)

In the run-up to Habitat III in Quito in October 2016, Live in a Living City and INTA (International Urban Development Association) will be organizing an initial brainstorming session on the Human Smart City at the Cities for Life conference in Medellin, which will take place on 31 August and 1 September.

As part of preparations for the next international Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, UNHABITAT, Live in a Living City, INTA and their partners are launching the “Habitat III – innovation at the heart of the urban agenda” initiative. This initiative consists of a series of international consultations with members of the Live in a Living City and INTA networks. The first consultation – “Smart Cities & Smart Citizen in the light of Cities for Life” – will take place during the Cities for Life conference in Medellin on 31 August and 1 September.

HABITAT III Conference

Habitat III is the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. Twenty years after the Habitat II Conference in Istanbul, Habitat III aims to have a major impact on urban issues and to help meet future urbanization challenges.

The Habitat III conference on sustainable urban development will be held in Quito (Ecuador) from 17 to 20 October 2016. Following the conference, a non-binding declaration will be adopted by Member States, which will nevertheless play a decisive role in the development of national urban policies.

INTA- LiaLCity HABITAT III Initiative

This initiative, which is run in parallel to the UN process, seeks to help set the agenda on urban issues by breaking with conventional urban policies and promoting exchanges between public and private urban players, including political decision-makers, businesses and civil society.

Several cities have already agreed to take part in these consultations:

* Quito in Ecuador (July 2016).

Medellin: Smart Cities in the light of Cities for Life

The Medellin session – “Smart Cities & Smart Citizen in the light of Cities for Life” – will take place during the Cities for Life conference in Medellin and will bring together international experts to explore the theme of the living city and the citizen-centric city.

Dans le cadre de la préparation de la prochaine conférence mondiale de l’ONU-HABITAT sur le logement et le développement urbain durable, Live in a Living City, INTA et leurs partenaires lancent l’initiative ‘Habitat III – l’innovation au cœur de l’agenda urbain’. Cette initiative est construite autour d’une série de consultations internationales dans les réseaux de Live in a Living City et INTA. La première d’entre elles, intitulée « Smart Cities & Smart Citizen in the light of Cities for Life” aura lieu dans le cadre de la conférence Cities for Life de Medellin les 31 août et 1^er septembre prochains.

HABITAT Conférence III

HABITAT III est la troisième conférence des Nations Unies sur le logement et le développement urbain durable. Vingt ans après la Conférence Habitat II à Istanbul, Habitat III vise à être un événement majeur sur les questions de villes, dans un contexte marqué par de nouveaux défis de l’urbanisation.

Habitat III se tiendra à Quito (Equateur) du 17 au 20 Octobre 2016 le thème du développement durable urbain. Suite à la conférence, une déclaration non contraignante sera adoptée par les États membres. Elle sera néanmoins décisive pour le développement de politiques urbaines nationales.

Initiative INTA- LiaLCity HABITAT III

Cette initiative parallèle au processus de l’ONU vise à contribuer au nouvel ordre du jour urbain en rompant avec les politiques urbaines conventionnelles et en favorisant les échanges entre les acteurs publics et privés de la ville (décideurs politiques, entreprises, société civile).
