The worsening traffic congestion in Metro Manila remains a pressing issue, significantly impacting the daily lives of urban workers, particularly in central business districts like Makati and Bonifacio Global City.
Recent findings from the TomTom Traffic Index reveal that commuters spend an average of 25 minutes and 30 seconds to cover a 10-kilometer route, such as the distance between Cubao and Makati. This has resulted in workers losing up to 117 hours annually due to traffic in 2023—equivalent to nearly five days, and an increase of 12 hours and 51 minutes compared to 2022.
The urgency to rethink urban planning strategies, including accessible, proximity-based living and working environments, has never been clearer. Addressing these challenges through innovative, sustainable urban models will be critical for improving quality of life and economic productivity in Metro Manila.
